Events
Over the years, the Collaborative has planned and realized events at NASA Ames that have engaged and enriched those of all ages, including students, teachers, engineers, and the general public.
JASON City
Each year NASA Ames invited teachers and students to experience JASON City. Usually held in a Moffett Field hanger (like historic Hangar One), students were provided with numerous engaging and hands-on educational activities. JASON City was largely staffed with over 100 volunteers dedicating over 800 hours supporting the JASON Expedition by facilitating the hands-on activities in the Hangar or working in the auditorium.
Aero Expo
Aeronautic careers, the history of flight, and NASA research were featured during this four-day, 4,000 visitor event, including:
- Career Central where Speakers represented many professional areas of space and aeronautics
- Aero Village featuring twelve engaging, hands-on educational activities reinforcing the theme of flight
- NASA Flight Line with fifteen aircraft were available to visitor inspection, with the owners on-hand to answer questions
Family Nights
Smart Skies™ features an interactive Air Traffic Control Simulator that enables students to apply proportional reasoning to make decisions and resolve conflicts in realistic air traffic control problems involving two or more planes.
Human Powered Vehicle Challenge
The Human Powered Vehicle Challenge took race requirements from American Society of Mechanical Engineers and San Jose State University for one indoor display and judging location, and three race tracks, for 2 days of racing. The event hosted 400 visitors from over 30 universities.
Moonfest
The NASA Ames Exploration Encounter is a unique educational program designed to inspire positive attitudes about science, technology, engineering and math for all students in the 4th through 6th grade. Located in a renovated 6’x6′ supersonic wind tunnel building, the Exploration Encounter makes math and science curriculum come alive.
